Combating wildfire in urban areas: Lessons learned from LA fires- enforcing House Out "Zone Zero Strategy"

Zoom Link https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88147277117?pwd=bceXJOYnMItb4ij8YxZHPmPb01YKDG.1

Speaker: Todd Lando, Hazard Mitigation Specialist, Central Marin Fire Department, President Executive Committee of Fire Safe Marin

Todd will explain what is involved in building and advocating for a “Zone Zero” Strategy that creates a completely clear and ember-resistant area within the first 5 feet around a structure to prevent wildfire spread by eliminating combustible materials directly adjacent to a home. The intent is to mitigate the risk of conflagration in urban areas like what occurred during the Palisades and Eaton firestorms in LA.

- Why is building a Zone Zero plan in Marin vital for wildfire protection?

- What will it take to implement?

- What can we expect from state rule- making under Governor Newsom's Executive Order?

- What will it mean for firefighters? Homeowners? The public?

- How have Marin's home inspection program and its Defensible Space/Home hardening investments laid the groundwork for a Zone Zero local ordinance?

Agenda will be posted prior to meeting.
